Okay, first of all, I guarantee that your town is nowhere near as plain and boring as you think it is (let’s be honest, it’s fully of cute talking animals, you could literally make it completely bare and it wouldn’t be plain or boring).

As for tips, I can only tell you what I personally would do. If I had a better map, I would make little themed areas (like a park, or a relaxing spring, etc.) so that might be a cute idea.
